Great Art is Religious in Nature
in Kazakhstan, I had an almost religious experience listening to a band I stumbled upon at a bar
They played the greatest rendition of Creep I had ever heard
A random Friday at a random bar in a fairly random country
And here it was, a singer giving what viscerally appeared to be his absolute best to the song
The striations of his veins surfaced out his neck as he held the long notes of the song
On “Creep” he would even hit the microphone on his head like a mad man
And, it was amazing.
But, it was the context that heightened it to the utmost.
Here is “just a person”
That day was “just another day”
That bar was “just another bar”
And Yet!
Everything was given over to this performance
One of the most raw artistic expressions I have ever seen
